Hey, Y’all, welcome to The User is Content, a blog/public journal thing by Josh Raab.
Long story short: If you know/like me, please subscribe for updates on my life and my thinking about life. If you followed me on Instagram and liked my writing, please feel free to comment below to suggest some topics or ask some questions I can respond to. Thanks!
Longer story:
For a while there, I had found a nice community on Instagram who seemed to like my sort of voyeuristic writing: no secrets, over-sharing about taboos, and contrarian takes on everything. I would post about everything from the birth of my son to my homosexual encounters, to all things love and relationships, to feminism & masculinity, to politics to science, to music, and so on.
Not to get grandiose with petty software decisions, but for reasons I will explain in a post sometime soon, I deleted my Instagram and this community with the same confidence and no-looking-backness as I did with Facebook back when not having a Facebook meant I was a social outcast. This feeling faded, as I’m sure will the current sensation that actually deleting my Instagram is a faux-pas I’ll never be able to return from. The fact that this act makes me feel like a second-class citizen is part of the reason I’m doing it: to feel it and to write about why humans have willfully created such a bizarre framework in which to operate in.
I’m hoping to keep my community going on Substack, a platform with more stability, more room for me to write, and more room for me to grow. I hope you’ll follow along:
If you don’t know me already, professionally, I am a book editor. I have worked closely alongside people like Al Gore, Garth Brooks, Neil Patrick Harris, and other powerful white men. I quit my big New York publishing job that gave me access to this part of society and now work on publishing books for a variety of less famous but more diverse people who want to publish books without ruining my sleep schedule and stressing me out. You can learn about my work at my publishing website Raab & Co.
I’m also a musician/pianist/music producer/songwriter under the name Big Whims.
I’m also a father to Jahji and partner to Marley, pictured here:
As my spiritual sage with incredibly unique takes on society and sexuality, Marley and her insights will often be present in these posts and my thinking.
I’ll be writing about my life, media, relationships, politics, technology, psychology, and I guess anything else that seems important to me at the moment.
